Virginia Blue Devils 2017 Section 7A Champs
The Virginia girls high school tennis team, coached by Jeff Marston, won their fourth straight section 7A team tournament title this year. The tournament was held at our club. The Blue Devils defeated Pierz in the semi finals and Pine City in the final. The doubles team of Anna Sietz and Ava Warren qualified for the state tournament by placing second in the individual region tournament. At state, they won the doubles consolation title. In the individual singles tournament, ninth grader Mary Skorich placed third, narrowly missing a trip to the individual state tournament. Overall, this was a strong performance by the Blue Devils. Good job girls in upholding the strong Blue Devil tennis tradition!
The VHS Girl's Tennis Team had a terrific 2014 season winning the section 7A title and finished the season 2nd place in state.
Virginia's number 1 singles player Brylee Seitz had a great run in the individual portion of the state tournament. Brylee finished in 2nd place.
In Section 7A play the Lady Blue Devils defeated Eveleth-Gilbert 5-2 in the quarterfinals, Pine City 6-1 in the Semifinals, and Marshall 5-2 in the Finals to win the Section 7A Championship and advance to the State Tournament.
Virginia fell to Rochestor-Lourdes 1-6 in the first round of play, but bounced back to defeat last years State Champion Holy Family 4-3 and Foley 5-2 to claim the Consolation Championship.
